  1. Courtney says:

FYI, The Big E is the collective “state fair” for New England. Its real name is “The Eastern States Exposition,” but everyone pretty much calls it The Big E.

  2. Mop Top says:

Basically it’s a festival with food, amusements, crafts, exhibits, etc. of mammoth proportions located in Springfield, MA. It’s a lot of fun. For more information, go here.

    http://www.thebige.com

But you don’t have to take MY word for it!

  3. Julia says:

Did I miss the news about reptiles no longer being considered animals?

    • Tank668 says:

Unless they have been made into large bags.

    • CK159 says:

Sure hope one of those little lizards doesn’t jump on Johnny before he walks in the front gate.

    • elderwitty says:

I’m wondering when *humans* became non-animals. Scientically (or even if you just read a newspaper), that’s the correct classification.

    • PsychoDad says:

Always has to be one, huh? Get a life you little twit.

    • Someone says:

That was the first thing I thought as well “…except humans, I hope?”. Then I read the lizards bit on the next line, and that was even sillier.

    • Dylan says:

I’m glad we can have someone who can’t spell scientifically teach us about why humans aren’t animals. Whats next professor? How the Sun revolves around the Earth or that volcanos erupt because Vulcan is PISSED!

    • Kausill says:

But animal just means carbon based lifeform that can move around.

    • pltttt says:

and are knives not weapons? what kind of a world do we live in!

  4. Tree-Man says:

That one wasn`t funny at all.

    • Ford says:

Agreed. It really just looks like a run-of-the-mill sign. The reptile/animal separation is really the only odd thing about it, and is so minor such as to merit no picture at all.

  5. Music-chan says:

Gosh darnit, now where am I going to put my aligator?

  6. Sarge says:

Right then. I’ll just be on my way into the Big E with this wheelbarrow full of dynamite and gasoline, then.

    Do de do de do.

  7. Mama Said says:

Ah, the Big E! I haven’t been there in… a couple decades. Woah, they don’t allow reptiles anymore? Bummer.

  8. Mike says:

The fairgrounds are in West Springfield, not Springfield.

(Completley different city, although they are adjacent, seperated by a large river.)

    • Mop Top says:

Excuse my foolishness, Mike…you are correct, it is WEST Springfield.

And for those of you who are EXTREMELY detail-oriented…the latitude and longitude.

    • Mike says:

Hey West Springfield needs all it can going for it!

These signs were put up after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

    • Mop Top says:

No worries, pal. I know /I/ (along with my whole fam damily) wouldn’t miss the fun for all the pudding in the world! And I sure love my pudding!

    • Hope says:

      Damn those terrorist lizards.

    • DMan says:

      Or not……

  9. Hapqy says:

No other large bags? Great! Now I’ve got an excuse to leave my mother-in-law behind!

  10. Chrystoph says:

Just another example of disarm the law abiding. Of course the criminals won’t adhere. They’re criminals, after all.

  11. bryan e says:

“No large bags”, eh. That means your mother-in-law, right?

  12. FunCrusher says:

Churches have less restrictions than this.

  13. koijoy says:

i got too lazy to read it all 😛

  14. Steve says:

I don’t know about you, but -I- certainly feel safer knowing that nobody else is allowed to bring a cooler or a suitcase in.

  15. yup says:

    1) No weapons – The criminals are the only ones armed! Yay! 2) No coolers – You can’t bring your own, better-tasting drinks and are forced to pay for crappy, over-priced drinks! Yay! 3) No large bags – Half of your family can’t be admitted! Yay!

  16. TVT says:

Hey, the Big E! My grandparents used to take us there every year. I remember a few things, like an animatronic singing refrigerator ensemble, and a giant butter sculpture, and massive cows, and the pervasive smell of manure and corn. Good times.

  17. cTo says:

Dude, I worked summers at our county fair, in the small animal exposition, which had exhibits of chickens, rabbits, ducks, as well as some pet snakes and lizards. This one time, a guest came up to us and said there was a guy walking around the exhibit with a ball python around his neck. Irritated, we went up to him and asked him if he had removed the snake from the exhibit. He said no, it was HIS python, and then started to get really belligerent and angry that we had accused him of stealing a snake. We were like, “…Dude, you are walking around in a reptile exhibit WITH a reptile, what the hell do you think we’re gonna think??”

  18. kitty says:

    Apparently Reptiles arent animals. XD

  19. moe says:

I’ve been here..with my horse. I always thought horses were animals…lol. But then again, this was for the Appaloosa show, not the actual Big E. 🙂

  20. Zizzle says:

But, my amphibian army and I are free to rampage this “BIG E”!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

  21. GreenSteve says:

Since when are knives not weapons or reptiles not animals!

So are bicycles, roller SKATES, or scooters allowed?

What about 14mol (concentrated) hydrofluoric acid?

  22. DMan says:

LOL, i live in Springfield and I’ve seen these signs around the Big E all the time! Sadly though, this picture is wrong, the Big E, as other people have stated is located in WEST Springfield, NOT Springfield. Easy mistake to make I supposse though……

    • BGo says:

THANK YOU! (from a West Springfield resident who cannot STAND it when people assume we’re part of Springfield.)

    • KPH says:

Yes, agreed. West Springfield is a much better city than Springfield ever will be. That’s like thinking that the Hampdens (North, South and East) are one of the same.

  23. Al Qiada says:

    Curses, foiled again!

  24. IvyRedhead Hoffart says:

    They forgot screaming children.
